It turned out to be a thrilling contest between England and India in the third Test at Lords Cricket Ground. In the end, it were England who held their nerves and defeated India by 22 runs to take a lead of 2-1 in a five-match series. Despite losing the game, India showed great fight while chasing a target of 193 runs despite losing wickets at regular intervals with Ravindra Jadeja being a lone warrior with his knock of 61*(181) runs. Along with Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj who came to bat at 147/9, held one end and wasn't letting the wicket fall.
However, it couldn’t go in India’s way as Siraj ended up getting played on of Shoabi Bashir’s delivery as England finally registered a thrilling win at Lords. On the other side, India ended up on the losing side and Siraj was also left heartbroken. Looking at him, Zak Crawley and Joe Root ran towards him and tried to console Indian batter showing a great example of sportsman spirit. English skipper Ben Stokes was also seen hugging Ravindra Jadeja and hailing him for his fighting knock.
We thought if we get a lead of 80-100 that might be crucial for us: Shubman Gill
After the match, Indian skipper Shubman Gill hailed his side for showing brilliant fight throughout the Test match and also acknowledged Ravindra Jadeja for his heroics. Speaking further, Gill also mentioned that the result could have gone the other if India had taken lead of around 80-100 runs.
“There is always hope as long as there is a batsman batting, there is always some hope, because the target wasn't massive and one 50-60 run partnership we knew we would be back in. He (Jadeja) is very experienced, and didn't want to give him any message. I think he was batting really well with the tail and I just wanted him and the tail-enders to bat as long as possible. At one point, we thought if we get a lead of 80-100 that might be crucial for us, because we knew the fifth day on this wicket might not be that easy to chase 150-200, so we were thinking if we can get a lead of 80 runs we would be in a good position,” Gill said at the post-match presentation.
