Liverpool FC decide to immortalise jersey no.20 in memory of Diogo Jota

Not only this, The Reds have also decided to retire his jersey number. “The No.20 will be rightly immortalised for his contributions as part of Liverpool’s 2024-25 title-winners – the club’s 20th – with his trademark shimmy and strike in front of the Kop to seal victory in April’s Merseyside derby, a poignant last goal of his life,” the club posted. Diogo Jota had won the Premier league with Liverpool and the Nations League with Portugal before the incident.

The footballer, who was accompanied by his brother Andre Silva in a Lamborghini car, passed away on Thursday, July 3. However, the exact details aren't disclosed but reports in BBC state that the car went off the road due to a tyre blow-out in an attempt to overtake another vehicle before catching fire.
