Team India's captain Shubman Gill did a magnificent job as a batter on the fourth day of the second Test getting played at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The skipper came to bat after India lost two batters at a score of 96 and his responsibility was to produce a fine knock from his bat. As per expectations, he played his part efficiently and scored his eighth Test century, reaching the milestone in 129 balls. With this achievement, he has become the second India batter after Sunil Gavaskar to rack up a double century and a century from his bat in the same Test match. Talking about the list of overall batters who reached the aforementioned milestone, he is the ninth one.

After KL Rahul’s departure in the early stages of his innings, Shubman Gill built a solid partnership with the wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant. Both produced a 110-run stand together off just 103 balls. They took England’s bowling attack to the cleaners and added runs for India briskly. Pant fell against Shoaib Bashir after amassing 65 off just 58. His innings was studded with eight fours and three sixes.

India looking to deliver a gigantic target to the hosts in the Edgbaston Test

India are endeavouring to hand a massive target to England in the ongoing Test match. Both Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja stitched an effective partnership for the fifth wicket, to help India extend their lead beyong 450 runs after they were 180 runs ahead on first innings. After Harry Brook’s revelation that England will go after the chase aggressively no matter how the big score is, India are looking to deliver an uphill task to the home side.

Until tea, India are on 304/4 in 67 overs, with Gill (unbeaten 100 off 129) and Jadeja (unbeaten 25 off 62) at the crease. In the last session of the fourth Test, India will look to add more runs to their scorecard and declare the innings to deliver some overs to their bowlers to do some damage to the hosts' batting unit.
