South Africa all-rounder Corbin Bosch looked extraordinary in the first Test match played against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club. In the first innings, the Proteas took a 167-run lead. Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Bosch shone with their bats and produced tons from their bats. Bosch remained unbeaten and concluded his innings after scoring 100 runs off 124. His innings was studded with 10 fours, Riding on his knock along with those of Pretorius, South Africa posted a colossal total of 418/9 on the board. In the first innings, Bosch couldn’t be impactful with the ball but in the second innings, he looked solid with the ball.
In the second innings, when South Africa were required to defend 536 runs, Corbin stepped up and wrecked the hosts’ batting attack. He delivered the first breakthrough to his side in the form of Takudzwanashe Kaitano. His next hunts were Nick Welch and Sean Williams. He also got the better of Zimbabwe’s skipper Craig Ervine, who was looking to help his team diminish the margin of defeat. In the end, Zimbabwe capitulated to a score of 208 and Bosch ended his spell with 5/43 figures in 12 overs. This is the first instance in 23 years that a Protea player has notched up a ton and fifer in the same Test. In 2002, legend Jacques Kallis struck a ton and picked up a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh in Potchefstroom.
South Africa to next take on Zimbabwe from July 6 to 10
The Proteas will next contest against Zimbabwe from July 6 to 10 at the same venue. Keshav Maharaj and his boys will look to continue their dominance against the hosts in the next game to bag a series victory in a convincing style.
Following the red-ball series, both teams will participate in the triangular T20 International (T20I) series which will also witness the presence of New Zealand. The three teams will play six matches among one another between July 14 to 24. The final of the tournament will be held on July 26 at the Harare Sports Club, Harare.
