Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri wasn’t happy with the management for resting Jasprit Bumrah in the second Test of the ongoing five-match series against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Coming after a five-wicket defeat in the first Test in Leeds; India made a few changes in their playing XI. One of the major changes from the Indian line up was the exclusion of Jasprit Bumrah.

Skipper Shubman Gill said at the toss that Bumrah has been rested to manage his workload as the team will need him in the third Test which will be played at Lords. In place of Bumrah, Akash Deep has been included in the playing. Apart from that, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar have been included in the lineup with Sai Sudharsan and Shardul Thakur not finding a place.

You have the best fast bowler in the world and you make him sit: Ravi Shastri

Reacting to Jasprit Bumrah’s exclusion from the playing XI, Ravi Shastri questioned the Indian team management for resting their best pacer despite a seven-day gap between the first and the second Test. “You have the best fast bowler in the world and you make him sit out after seven days of rest. That is something very hard to believe,” Shastri said on Sky Sports.

Talking about the match, coming to bat first after losing the toss, India lost their first wicket in the form of KL Rahul (2 offf 26) at the score of 15 runs. After that, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Karun Nair added 80 runs for the second wicket. Nair got out after scoring 31(50) runs while Jaiswal scored 87(107) runs hitting 13 boundaries. By the end of second session, India were 182/3 with Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant at the crease.
