Animals making an appearance in an ongoing cricket is a rare feat. Dogs, cats, monkeys, bees, and even snakes invading the ground have led to a cricket match being interrupted. This interruption sometimes leads to stopping the passage of play for a while and it is also a risky affair. The ongoing Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka also attracted attention not only for the game of cricket that the two sides were playing, but also for the arrival of an unexpected guest.
During the first ODI of Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, in a bizarre moment, a 7-foot snake was captured on ground. The invasion by the reptile happened during the second innings of the Bangladesh chase, after 2.4 overs the snake made an entry at the ground. Fortunately, the snake was taken out of the ground without any hassle, and there was no reports of anyone getting injured as well. It is worth noting that Sri Lanka being an island nation has been home to plenty of snakes, who have time and again made an appearance during the matches that are hosted there.
Bangladesh went from 100/1 to 167/10
As for the match itself, captain Charith Asalanka struck 106 off 123 to take Sri Lanka to a total of 244 in 49.2 over, while Wanindu Hasaranga returned incredible figures of 4/10 in 7.5 overs to help in bundling out the visitors for 167 in 35.5 overs. Bangladesh suffered an almighty collapse from 100/1 to 167/10, thanks to bowling efforts of Hasaranga and Kamindu Mendis who returned with 3/19
A user in a post social media platform X jokingly wrote that the appearance of snake ended up in a curse more than a blessing for Bangladesh. The post said, “A snake showed up to cheer during the Bangladesh Vs Sri Lanka game, but it ended up cursing more than blessing, things quickly went downhill for Bangladesh. From a solid 100/2, Bangladesh collapsed to 110/8.”
