Ahead of the second day of the second test in the India vs England Test match series. It was seen that there were concerns about why Jasprit Bumrah is not part of the squad in the second test. Former Sri Lankan cricket Kumar Sangakkara seemed to be disappointed with India's decision to rest their main attacking bowler as they are already trailing in the series 0-1. This decision from the management of India and Gautam Gambir was faced by immense reactions from former cricketers like Ravi Shastri, Dale Steyn and Kumar Sangakkara.
The team has been having a poor run in test matches having managed to only win once and have faced a total of seven losses since September last year. Hence bagging a win in this test series would be crucial in order to boost the morale of the players. Bumrah has played a massive role for India with his fiery spells and his absence can prove to be very costly for the Indian Cricket Team. India have already lost five wickets on the first day of the second test and it will be interesting to see what kind of total they can manage to put on the board to defend.
Bumrah’s absence could prove costly to India: Sangakkara
When Sangakkara was asked about the test match, sangakkara stated that, “If we see the score, it's an even day, perhaps a little bit more tilted towards England with the five wickets down. So I would have expected the coach to have gone to Bumrah and say 'Yes, we thought you might play the 3rd and the 5th Test, but we're going 1 and 2. Take a look if you can play the third if you can, because then you've got two weeks off before the next one" in an interview with Sky Sports.
The Indian team saw multiple changes in the squad ahead of the second test match due to the pressure of the defeat in the first Match. It will be interesting to see the turn of events in the Edgbaston test in the upcoming days. India will be going all guns blazing to avoid a defeat in this second test match. However, talking about India's performance on day two, skipper Shubman Gill led from the front with a double hundred as India crossed 500 runs in the first innings.
