Team India looked magnificent on the day two of the second Test getting played at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After ending the first day at a score of 310/5, India captain Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja looked confident in the first session and added 104 more runs together. Jadeja, however, got hoodwinked by Josh Tongue’s bouncer and lost his wicket after scoring 89. Following the veteran’s departure, Washington Sundar walked out to the middle to support his skipper. Sundar looked composed and helped Gill to attack English bowlers freely. Gill showed no mercy towards the hosts and brought his maiden Test double ton in 311 balls.

Sundar departed after scoring a poised 42 off 103 as Joe Root cleaned up the southpaw to break the crucial 144-run stand between both youngsters. Gill ended his knock after notching up 269. The 25-year-old’s innings was studded with 30 fours and three sixes. Gill fell against Josh Tongue. After Gill’s departure, India added 13 more runs and erected a colossal total of 587 runs on the board. Shoaib Bashir emerged as the most-successful bowler for the home side in the innings as he scalped three wickets.

England’s top-order looked ineffective in the first innings vs India

Following the gigantic score, England’s top-order collapsed as Ben Duckett (0 off five) and Ollie Pope (0 off 1) failed to counter Akash Deep, who picked them up on consecutive deliveries. Zak Crawley looked confident with his bat but he failed to counter the Mohammed Siraj challenge.

Crawley chipped in with only 19 and after his failure, Joe Root  (unbeaten 18 off 37) and Harry Brook (unbeaten 30 off 53) stood at the crease and accumulated runs at a fine pace. Both have stitched a 52-run stand thus far in the game and England are now at 77/3 after the end of the second day's play.
