On Sunday, July 6, Team India etched historic as they won their first-ever Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The win was even more special as it was Shubman Gill’s first as captain of the red-ball side, after he succeeded Rohit Sharma, who announced retirement from Test cricket in May 2025. With a win on Sunday, Team India leveled the ongoing five-match series 1-1 against England before it goes into the third Test, which is set to be played at Lord’s from July 10 to 14.

While Shubman Gill starred with the bat, scoring a double-century in the first innings, followed by another ton in the second innings to help put a mammoth 608-run target for the hosts, the bowlers, especially Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep stepped up in absence of Jasprit Bumrah to take the side over the finish the line.

I can't see my favourite journalist: Shubman Gill trolls journalist after India’s 336-run win; goes viral

After leading the side to victory, Shubman Gill appeared for the post-match press conference. When a sports journalist from Times Now put up a question for Gill, the Indian skipper took a moment before he went up to troll another journalist. "I can't see my favourite journalist. Where is he? I wanted to see him," Gill said, leaving the room in laughter.

The trolling from Gill came after the journalist pointed out bitter stats in front of him prior to the second Test. However, the Indian skipper went on to continue, stating, "I even said before the Test match that I don't really believe in history and stats. Over the last 56 years or so, we've played nine matches - different teams have come here. I believe we are the best team to have come here in England, and we have the capability to beat them, to win the series from here. If we keep making the right decisions and keep fighting, I think it would be one of the series to remember."

With India now leveling the series after registering a 336-run win in Birmingham, the series will move to London, where the two dominant sides will lock horn in the third Test, scheduled to be played from July 10 to 14 at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
