Following their 4-0 semi-final win against Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) were considered as heavy favourites to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. But in the final match, Chelsea reigned supreme over the French club to clinch the FIFA Club World Cup title in the final played at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, July 13. Cole Palmer’s double strike put PSG in tatters, Palmer stunned three defenders inside the box to score his first and then shimmied beyond Lucas Beraldo for a second. Joao Pedro’s goal and PSG being unable to beat Robert Sanchez in the Chelsea sealed the deal for the latter. The fans of both the teams were seen reacting to these goals.
In one such reaction video, online streamer IShowSpeed was reacting to the match post the goals scored by Cole Palmer. In a video on social media platform X he said, “Somebody stop Cole Palmer, two goals…oh my god.” With his reactions it seemed to appear that he was supporting PSG in the FIFA Club World Cup Final. For PSG, it was for the second time in six weeks that a final match turned into a one-sided affair, when they won a historic 5-0 win over Inter Milan in the Champions League final but here they were at the other end.
Chelsea also won UEFA Conference League and finished fourth in the Premier League
Cole Palmer opened the scoring midway through the first half and struck again to make it two on the half-hour mark, before taking advantage of passive defending to set up Joao Pedro for the third on 43 minutes. It was a scoreline that few could have predicted as Chelsea capped what has been a long but memorable season.
Chelsea are the first ever winners of the 32-team Club World Cup having also won the UEFA Conference League and finished fourth in the Premier League. They will also take away around $125 million in prize money, meaning the prospect of a drastically curtailed summer break before returning for next season will surely feel worth it.
