The first Youth Test of two-match series between England U-19 and India U-19 is currently underway at the Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. After clinching the five-match Youth ODI series 3-2, the Indian U-19 cricket team are aiming to perform well against England in the Youth Test series. In the first Youth Test, Indian captain Ayush Mhatre won the toss and chose to bat first. The young talents of Indian cricket Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre opened the batting for the team. The young prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored some quick boundaries to kickstart the proceedings. However, he lost his wicket early into the match, getting out for 14 runs from just 13 balls.
However, the young sensation Ayush Mhatre held his ground to be the backbone of the team to put up a huge total for the England team to chase. The young Indian opener scored a wonderful 102 runs from just 115 balls and built a strong second-wicket partnership alongside Vihaan Malhotra. During his stay at the crease, the right-handed batter from Mumbai hammered 14 fours and two sixes. The 17-year-old helped build a foundation for India to build upon and currently they have reached 298 runs for four wickets before the tea break.

Ayush Mhatre looking to build his red-ball career after impressive showing in IPL 2025
Ayush Mhatre plays for Mumbai team in domestic cricket and is one of the best young players in India right now. He was given the India U-19 captaincy after his eye-catching performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Mhatre was signed as an injury replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad by Chennai Super Kings in the league, and he made his debut against Mumbai Indians, impressing everyone with his outstanding shots and explosive batting. He finished the IPL campaign by scoring 240 runs in just seven matches.
In the first Youth Test against England U-19, Ayush Mhatre batted with a strike rate of around 90 and showed elegant control in the shots played by him. He is one to look for in the two-match Youth Test series as his talent and skill could make him a match-winner for the Indian U-19 cricket team.
