Day three of the ongoing second Test between England and India at Edgbaston, Birmingham, saw some drama unfold in the middle. Earlier in the day, on the back of Mohammed Siraj’s six-wicket haul, along with a four-fer from Akash Deep, India restricted England at 407 in 89.3 overs. However, Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184*) played gritty century knocks, but England were bundled out with India taking a lead of 180 runs.

The visitors, Shubman Gill-led Team India once again took the crease in order to extend their lead, opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed cheaply after scoring 28 off 22 balls. But during his short stay, he was surrounded by controversy after he went for a late review for being given LBW out.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s late review leaves Ben Stokes fuming on Day 3 of second Test

The incident took place in the eighth over of the India innings. With Jaiswal and KL Rahul batting in the middle, Josh Tongue got one to angle in and hit Jaiswal on the pad as the Indian batter tried to go for a drive. Soon after this, one of the on-field umpires, Sharfuddoula raised his finger. The young Indian batter walked straight to KL to discuss whether to challenge the decision or not and then called for a review.

Seemingly the DRS timer had run out till the time Jaiswal opted for a review and this decision left the England skipper fuming. Stokes was later seen confronting to the umpire for his decision and a few minutes later, KL Rahul also stepped in to cool things down between the two, video of which has been going viral.

The review did not give any respite to Jaiswal as the delivery showed the ball hitting the top of leg stump and forced the batter to walk off the field after scoring 28 runs. With Jaiswal’s wicket, Karun Nair joined KL in the middle and the duo are batting at 28* and 7* respectively. At stumps, the Indian scorecard read 64/1 with the side extending their lead to 244 runs.
