The reigning champions of Big Bash League (BBL), Hobart Hurricanes are all set to repeat their winning feat in this season as well, starting this December. After finishing as runners-up in their first two stints in 2014 and 2018, Hurricanes won the title for the first time, leaving Melbourne Stars as the only team that does not have a BBL title. As they eye their second title, the Hurricanes have signed Tim David to strengthen their middle-order. David’s signing comes after they signed Australia Test all-rounder Beau Webster on a three-year deal.
Hobart Hurricanes on Tuesday, July 8 confirmed re-signing of Tim David ahead of BBL 2025-26 season. Taking to X, the Big Bash League wrote, “JUST IN: Tim David has re-signed with the Hobart Hurricanes for two more seasons!” This comes at a stage with Hurricanes assembling their batting line-up, with names like Mitch Owen, Ben McDermott, Nikhil Chaudhary and Matthew Wade signing new contracts, and Beau Webster and Jake Weatherald also joining them.
Tim David signs two-year contract extension with Hobart Hurricanes
Tim David, who was the driving force behind Hobart’s title-winning campaign in BBL 14, scored 254 runs with a massive strike rate of more than 177. Nicknamed as ‘Surge Goliath’ by the fans and commentators for his incredible strike rate, his heroics were crucial in clutch wins against the Adelaide Strikers, Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Renegades that ultimately helped Hurricanes to qualify to the finals.
Speaking after the contract extension, David expressed, “I am super-excited to re-sign with the Hurricanes for another two seasons. Last year was special, and I can’t wait to do it all again this summer!”
Tim David key member of IPL 2025-winning RCB side
Known for his clean power hitting and athleticism in the outfield, Tim David was one of the most essential cogs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) as well. Brought for INR 3 Crore, David perfected the role whenever it was required for him. Against Chennai Super Kings, although it was Romario Shepherd’s fifty that stole the limelight, the 8-ball knock of 22 runs by Tim David was an underdog innings. Where his remarkable hat-trick of sixes showcased his capability to turn the momentum.
Even in the match against Punjab Kings, his knock of 50* provided much needed impetus to the batting of RCB in a rain-marred game, where neither Virat Kohli nor skipper Rajat Patidar could create an impact with the bat. In this season of IPL, David played 12 matches for RCB and amassed 187 runs at a strike rate of more than 185, hitting 16 boundaries and going over the ropes for six 14 times.
