Australia batter Tim David, who is away from cricketing action for the last few months, has divulged why he isn’t chasing One-Day International (ODI) return for his national side. David made his ODI debut in September 2023 during Australia’s ODI assignment in South Africa. During the five-match 50-over series, David played four games and scored 45 runs. His last ODI appearance was against the Protea side in Johannesburg on September 17. Recently, Australia have witnessed the retirement of two middle-order batters Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis and with the vacuum left to fill, questions are rising whether David will grab the spot.
David, who is recovering from a hamstring injury, spoke from Perth and said that he hasn’t completely ruled out the probability of his ODI return but currently his focus is on the shortest format of the sport. “Definitely having conversations in the background with my coaches, and people that I want to talk to about my game at the moment. I’m not too sure, to be honest. It’s not the immediate plan,” said David as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
He also added, “We’ve got such a busy year leading up to the T20 World Cup. Previously, I would have been away for four or five months in a row over the winter playing competitions. Now we’ve got so many T20 series that there’s not much time to think about much else.”
Tim David to miss Global Super League 2025
While he continues to play, Tim David won’t be able to deliver his services to Hobart Hurricanes in the Global Super League 2025, which will be played from July 10 to 19. Hobart will kick off their campaign against Dubai Capitals on July 11. This year, David has been part of two champion sides.
In January, David won the Big Bash League (BBL) title with Hurricanes. In the victorious campaign, he scored 254 runs in 11 matches at a strike rate of 177.62 while in June 2025, he won the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The right-handed Aussie batter chipped in with 187 runs in nine innings in Bengaluru’s historic win.
