The International Cricket Council (ICC) has got its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as cricket’s apex-body has appointed India’s media tycoon Sanjog Gupta for the crucial post. Sanjog will supersede Australia’s Geoff Allardice, who stepped down in January 2025 due to personal reasons. Allardice was in the post for four years. Before Allardice and Gupta, the post of ICC's CEO has been previously held by names such as David Richards, Malcolm Speed, David Richardson, Haroon Lorgat from South Africa and Manu Sawhney.
Sanjog is chosen among 12 candidates who were shortlisted for the post. ICC earlier revealed it received more than 1200 applications across 25 nations. Gupta will be taking the new role with immediate effect. He outdistanced notable figures such as the England Cricket Board (ECB) Chairman Richard Thompson, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) President Shammi Silva and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia to become ICC’s new CEO.
His name was approved by ICC Chairman Jay Shah. Announcing Sanjog’s appointment, Shah gave a statement and said Sanjog’s experience with the sports industry will benefit ICC. “Sanjog brings extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialisation, which will be invaluable for the ICC,” said Shah.

Before taking the new role, Sanjog was associated with Star India (now JioStar). He joined Star as a journalist in 2010 and elevated his position in the organisation through his content and strategy roles. In 2020, he also became Head of Sports.
