The Mumbai Indians (MI) batting lineup has taken control of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Qualifier 2 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) with some swashbuckling batting from their top order at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. After being put into bat first by PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer, the massive wicket of Rohit Sharma came at the hands of Marcus Stoinis before Jonny Bairstow and Tilak Varma started to attack the opposition bowlers in the powerplay stage.

These two batters shared a valuable 51-run stand for the second wicket before Jonny Bairstow was dismissed by Vijaykumar Vyshak, but he had done the damage with an innings of 38 runs in just 24 balls with three fours and two sixes. It led to the arrival of in-form Suryakumar Yadav at the crease, and just as expected, the Indian T20I captain started to find the boundaries regularly, being severe on Yuzvendra Chahal the most.

While Tilak Varma was happy to hit boundaries consistently on the pacers, Suryakumar Yadav did the same against the spinners, sharing a 72-run stand for the third wicket. Yuzvendra Chahal had the last laugh in his battle with Suryakumar Yadav, getting him caught at mid-wicket on the sweep for 44 runs in 26 balls with four fours and three sixes.

As of this writing, Kyle Jamieson picked up the key wicket of well set Tilak Varma for 44 runs in 29 balls, an innings which had two fours and two sixes, and with that, MI’s score read 142/4 in 14.1 overs.
