On June 26, 2025, Madhya Pradesh bagged a six-wicket win against Mumbai in the final of the Ranji Trophy 2021-22, played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Winning the toss, Mumbai skipper Prithvi Shaw elected to bat first. Riding on Sarfaraz Khan’s 134, Mumbai posted 374 runs on the board in the first innings. In reply, Madhya Pradesh batted with discipline and erected a massive total of 536. Opener Yash Dubey (133), Shubham Sharma (116), and Rajat Patidar (122) outclassed Mumbai’s bowling attack and produced centuries from their bats. Saransh Jain also scored a half-century from his bat to help his team take a 162-run lead.
In the second innings, the left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya stepped up for Madhya Pradesh and wreaked havoc on Mumbai’s batting unit. He picked up 4/98 figures to bundle out Mumbai on 269. In his audacious spell, he hunted the scalps of Hardik Tamore, Suved Parkar, Yashasvi Jasiwal, and Tanush Kotian. Gaurav Yadav and Parth Sahani also assisted Kartikeya as they also picked up two wickets respectively in the innings.
Madhya Pradesh chased down the total of 108 and claimed their first Ranji Trophy title
Pursuing the target of 108, Madhya Pradesh lost their opener Yash Dubey early but Himanshu Mantri, along with Shubham Sharma, stitched a 52-run stand for the second wicket to take their team close to the target. Rajat Patidar and captain Aditya Shrivastava ended the game as the former scored the winning runs from his bat.
Shubham Sharma, who produced a knock of 116 from his bat in the first innings, became the Player of the Match (POTM). Sarfaraz Khan became the recipient of the Player of the Tournament award for scoring the most runs in the illustrious competition. He racked up 982 runs with four hundreds and two fifties in nine innings of six matches.
