Rishabh Pant played an important role in the Indian cricket team’s dominance with the ball during the first day of the third Test against England. The quick reflexes and accurate judgement helped to judge the ball as a result he could complete two catches successfully in the first session. But, in the 34th over during the post lunch session on the previous day, Pant dived to collect a ball which was missed by Ollie Pope. He couldn’t collect the ball before it hit him flush on his hand and the game was also halted for some time after that incident.

As soon as Rishabh Pant dived, the ball struck the index finger of his left hand. The impact was very strong because he appeared to be in a lot of pain after that. The physios assessed him and after some time he left the field, Dhruv Jurel replaced him as substitute wicketkeeper. BCCI shared an update regarding Pant’s situation before the start of play on day two on X, “Rishabh Pant is still recovering from the hit on his left index finger. The BCCI medical team will continues to monitor his progress. Dhruv Jurel continues to keep wickets on Day 2,” which also means that his batting status for the Test match is unknown.

Dhruv Jurel’s catch dismissed Ollie Pope on the first ball after tea on day one

Joe Root and Ollie Pope were steadily holding on to the wicket and making runs at a slow speed. Their cautious batting led to a wicketless post-lunch session on the first day of the Test match, along with a partnership of 88 runs for the hosts. But left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja provided the much needed breakthrough on the first ball of the post tea session. Dhruv Jurel took the catch which proved to be very vital for the session to continue as England couldn’t accelerate their run rate.

In a quick show of reflexes, Jurel judged the ball travelling away from the off stump. His head moved in sync with the edge of the bat, and he grabbed the ball as soon as it deflected from that edge. Till the second day of the test match, Jurel had taken three catches so far in the Indian bowling effort.
