Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah turned out to be a star with his five-wicket haul as India took a small lead of six runs in the first innings of the first Test against England at Headingley in Leeds. After posting 471 runs in the first innings, India were struggling to put England in pressure as Ollie Pope came up with a knock of 106 runs from 147 balls hitting 14 boundaries. Apart from that, Ben Duckett also contributed with 62(94) runs on day two. For India, Bumrah took all three wickets on day two.

On day three, Prasidh Krishna also took charge of the Indian bowling line up along with Jasprit Bumrah and ended up taking three wickets. However, England also kept scoring runs with Harry Brook missing his ton by just one run as he got out after scoring 99 runs off 112 balls. Jamie Smith also contributed with 40(52) while Chris Woakes scored 38(55) runs as England went past 450 runs in the first innings.

Despite getting reduced to 398/7, England’s lower order frustrated the Indian bowlers as the visitors lost a chance to take a big lead. However, Jasprit Bumrah, who took three wickets on the previous day, didn’t let the hosts to take a lead as he took the final two wickets by the end of the second session of day three. The fast bowler registered figures of 5/83, Prasidh Krishna took three while Mohammed Siraj put two in his bag.

Now, India will be looking to make this lead of six runs as big one and give England a challenging target to win the match. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal are currently taking charge of the Indian batting line in the second innings on the third session of day three.
