Sri Lanka is currently hosting Bangladesh in a multi-format series, consisting of two Tests, three ODIs and as many T20Is. While the hosts won the Test series by 1-0 margin, the three-match ODI series is currently leveled at 1-1 with third ODI set to be played on Tuesday, July 8 at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele.

As the visitors will hope to clinch the 50-over series, they have been handed a massive setback. Hours ahead of the series decider, Bangladesh have received a massive blow with their top-order batter Najmul Hossain Shanto set to miss the match due to a quad injury.

Najmul Hossain Shanto doubtful for third ODI vs Sri Lanka

Shanto sustained the injury in the second ODI, played at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday, July 5. The former skipper even failed to complete his fielding duties with the side and was under observation of the medical team. If reports are to be believed, Shanto did participate in the training session, but was seen struggling.

"We can only say something about him after the practice session [Shanto] because it is important to see how he reacts in the net and elsewhere in the training session ahead of the game," a source close to the development told Cricbuzz. It is to be noted that after completion of the Test series, Shanto stepped down from captaincy. The decision followed by the veteran batter being dropped from the T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka.
