Marc Guehi, the England centre-back, will be entering the final year of contract with Crystal Palace in the upcoming season after winning the FA Cup with them with a win over Manchester City at the Wembley Stadium in London. It is understood that the 24-year-old has no intention of extending his contract with the London-based club, wanting to leave as a free agent next summer despite interest in him from clubs like Liverpool, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur.
As per the report published in the Guardian, Marc Guehi is not in any sort of a hurry to have a move finalised away from Crystal Palace, especially not at the expense of reduced playing time next season. With the FIFA World Cup 2026 set to happen in 12 months’ time, he wants to give himself the best chance to get picked in the England squad, with a lot of competition for places in the defensive ranks.
Newcastle United tried to sign Marc Guehi last summer but for steep asking price from Crystal Palace
With this latest development, Crystal Palace have found themselves in a big conundrum, with a potential of losing one of their top players on a free transfer despite the bigger clubs looking to sign him currently. In recent times, Liverpool have looked the most likely to sign Marc Guehi if they are able to sell Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, from whom they have just signed Florian Wirtz.
It was just last summer when Newcastle United tried to sign Marc Guehi, but with Crystal Palace asking price being £70 million, the move was quickly ruled out at the time. But now, with the Tyne side club qualifying for the UEFA Champions League (UCL) once again, they will be looking to bolster their defensive ranks with the potential signing of Marc Guehi, especially with some of their defenders past the age of 30, namely Jamaal Lascelles, Fabian Schar, and Dan Burn.
