The most beautiful race track and arguably speaking, the finest racing venue in Europe beside the legendary Spa-Francorchamps, home to the Belgian Grand Prix, as a racing venue Austria is brilliant and exhilarating in equal measure.

With its serene mountainous setting and engaging twisty layout, it’s challenged several drivers from the past with only a few emerging victorious here on more the one occasion.

Let’s take a look at drivers who’ve aced the Austrian Grand Prix on most number of occasions.

Drivers with most race wins at Austrian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen - 4 times

max verstappen A talismanic, uncompromising, daring and tireless world champion, Max Verstappen commands regard today in the world for his four world titles (draws level with Vettel) and also, at the same time, continues to court much attention thanks to what often are notorious ways of driving. Such as Spain in 2025, earlier this year.

But at the Red Bull Ring, home to the Austrian Grand Prix and one of the most amazing racing tracks on the entire calendar, Verstappen holds the world record of most race wins at the Austrian Grand Prix.

What’s emphatic in this regard is that Verstappen has more race wins here over and above icons like Schumacher and even the legend Sir Lewis Hamilton.

Alain Prost - 3 times

alain prost The great French Formula 1 driver, an ace from France who ruled with iron fist the globe trotting sport of Formula 1 dominated the Austrian Grand Prix in the past. Prost won famous battles here back in the eighties, including a dominant win in the year 1985.

In the days where Senna, a timeless legend and Piquet, the dominant force with Brabham-BMW charged through the field, Prost’s great win back in the day, the eighty five triumph coming four decades back speaks volumes of his greatness.

Ronnie Peterson - 2 times

One of his two wins at Austria, the one that came in the year 1978, paid tribute to his distinct talent at racing hard and looking after the tires adequately well.

As a matter of fact the win in ‘78 at Austria will always matter a great deal for Peterson’s career as it would turn out to be his last ever career F1 win before his untimely and sad demise in the same year at Italy. Interestingly, he established a Grand Slam at this very event, circa 1978, having taken pole, setting the fastest lap and winning the Austrian Grand Prix ahead of Patrick Depailler in his Tyrell-Ford.

Mika Hakkinen - 2 times

The only man who can be credited besides Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen to truly compete with the legendary Michael Schumacher and actually coming as far as defeating the iconic German to win two world titles, Hakkinen was responsible for two amazing wins at Austria.

Both of his wins were incredible triumphs at the picturesque Spielberg atop the Austrian hills were excellent demonstrations of his cool and composed means of driving. The wins for the great Finn came in 1998 first and then, in 2000.
