Cricket, a sport which has attained global recognition and wuthering heights, is all set to mark its return in the Olympic Games after 128 years at the Los Angeles Games. While the development was confirmed by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), it was also confirmed that a total of six teams, each in men’s and women’s category will be fighting for the gold.

With the next quadrennial Games scheduled to be held in 2028, cricket, along with three other sports including flag football, baseball/softball, and lacrosse were confirmed to be the new additions. However, cricket will be played in the T20 format, and the matches will reportedly be held in the City of Pomona, West Coast (USA) on makeshift venues.

However, the preparations for the return of the sport are underway, along with the help of the International Cricket Council (ICC), LA28 on Monday, July 14 announced the schedule for the upcoming edition. With the tournament exactly three years away, cricket will mark its return on July 12 with the final set to be played on July 29.

In a notable move, cricket will commence two days prior to the official opening of the Games, with the medal matches set to be played on July 19 and July 29. Elaborating more on it, the first set of matches will take place from July 12 to 18 with the medal matches scheduled for July 19. The second set of matches will run from July 22 to 28 with the final set to July 29, followed by the conclusion of the Games.

When asked for clarification, LA28 said, "The gender sequence for events in the 2028 Games is not yet available. As stated in today's release, 'A more detailed schedule with medal events and gender order will be released later this year.'"
