In pursuit of the 193-run target in the third Test at Lord’s in London, to take a 2-1 lead in the five-match series, Indian batting lineup lost the early wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal on the bowling of Jofra Archer in the third session on day four. It signalled the arrival of Karun Nair to the crease, who hasn’t been able to convert his starts in the series into big runs, and he joined his former Karnataka teammate KL Rahul in the middle, aiming to take India into a better position.
While KL Rahul managed to play a few crisp strokes in his innings, Karun Nair found it a bit tough to get going amidst some good bowling from the England fast bowlers. Regardless, these two batters shared a 36-run stand for the second wicket, to calm the nerves down in the Indian dressing room before Brydon Carse dismissed Karun Nair lbw, ending his stay at the crease on 14 off 33 with one boundary.
It was a delivery bowled on good length with Karun Nair expecting it to swing away, only for the ball to move back in off the seam, to trap him in front of the stumps while shouldering arms. The dismissal of the right-handed batter couldn’t have come at the worst possible time for India, with them losing two more wickets, including their captain Shubman Gill, to end the fourth day on 58/4, still needing a further 135 runs to win the Lord’s Test.
Check out some of the fan reactions on Karun Nair’s yet another dismissal after getting a start:
