The Shubman Gill-led Team India are currently taking on England in the first of the five-match Test series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The visitors, who are coming into the series after two series defeat, that came against New Zealand at home and in Australia, will hope to overturn their results with a new bunch of cricketers coming in, especially after the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin.
As they eye their first series win in 18 years on the English soil, they also have some experienced players, including the likes of KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja and not to forget Jasprit Bumrah. The India pace spearhead once again grabbed the limelight, registering a five-wicket-haul as India bundled out England at the score of 465, taking a six-run lead.
Jasprit Bumrah hints at playing more than three Test matches against England
After day three of the first Test, Bumrah, who came out as a lone warrior in the bowling lineup, hinted at playing more than three Tests in the ongoing series. After registering figures of 5/83 in his 24.4-over spell, Bumrah was asked of how he has been feeling thus far. Speaking with BBC, Bumrah responded, "It is feeling good. It is a little bit colder here than India. I am feeling fresh and good, so hopefully good things will follow."
It is to be noted that at the time of squad announcement, Team India’s Chief Selector, Ajit Agarkar at the press briefing said, “I don’t think Jasprit Bumrah will be available for all five Tests. Even if he’s fit for 3-4 Tests, he’ll be an asset to us.” Furthermore, speaking ahead of the highly-anticipated series, Bumrah also spoke of playing limited number of Tests during the tour in order to manage his workload.
"I’m definitely looking at playing three Test matches - That’s the plan for now. Obviously, the exact number is not fixed yet, but the first one is certainly on. We’ll have to see how things go - the workload, the match scenarios, all of that but yes, at this moment, three Tests is what I feel I can manage comfortably without putting myself in a desperate situation,” Bumrah said on Sky Sports.
