After having a rollercoaster season in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the last year’s runners-up, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have made a change in their side. The Pat Cummins-led Orange Army, on Monday, July 14 announced signing of former India bowler, Varun Aaron.
The Hyderabad-based franchise have secured the services of Aaron as their bowling coach. Taking to X, the franchise confirmed the appointment, reading, “A fiery addition to our coaching staff! Welcome Varun Aaron as our new bowling coach ���� ”. It is to be noted that Varun Aaron retired from professional cricket on January 10, 2025 at the age of 35.
The 35-year-old pacer, represented India in nine Tests and as many ODIs in which he took 29 wickets. The Jharkhand bowler had earlier announced retirement from first-class cricket in February 2024. Speaking precisely of his IPL career, the 35-year-old played 52 matches, picking 44 wickets. His last appearance in IPL came in 2022 with Gujarat Titans.
Sunrisers Hyderabad hope to revive their campaign in IPL 2025
The Sunrisers Hyderabad, who have only won one IPL title in the tournament’s 18 year history, finished at sixth place in the IPL 2025 standings. While they opened their campaign with a 44-run win over Rajasthan Royals, they then went on to lose four matches on the trot.
After five matches, SRH returned in the league, winning their sixth game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) by eight wickets. They then went on to lose both their matches against Mumbai Indians (MI), they final got their third victory, which came against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Chennai. Their IPL 2025 campaign ended with three consecutive wins coming under their belt.
After their 14 league games, SRH finished at sixth place with six wins and seven defeats to their name. They secured 13 points under their belt with a net run rate of -0.241.
