The third Test of the five-match series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is currently underway at the Lord’s Cricket Ground. The two teams are coming into this Test after India leveled the series with a massive win at Edgbaston Test last week. For the unversed, Ben Stokes-led England won the toss and elected to bat first.
On the back of a century from Joe Root, they posted 387 on the board. For India, Jasprit Bumrah once again stood firm, picking a fifer. In reply, India also posted 387 runs, courtesy a 100 from KL Rahul and 70-plus runs from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja. As the day came to a close, England tried to delay the proceeding and only played an over, taking two-run lead.
It's obviously part of the game: Tim Southee on last over drama on Day 3
With the dramatic end to day three of the third Test, England’s bowling consultant, Tim Southee took a cheeky jibe at Shubman Gill and Zak Crawley’s drama. Speaking at the post-day press conference, Southee took a jibe at India captain Shubman Gill, referring to his on-field treatment on Day 2 which also briefly halted the day’s play.
“It’s good, always exciting to see both sides animated towards the end...Not sure what they were complaining about — Gill was lying down getting a massage in the middle of the day yesterday. It’s obviously part of the game,” Southee said.
Not only Southee, centurion KL Rahul was asked of his opinions on the last-over drama. “What happened at the end is just part of the game now. I understand from an opening batter's point of view. I know exactly what was going on, and everyone knows exactly what was going on. But an opening batter will understand completely what happened in the last five minutes,” KL Rahul said.
