Chelsea FC showed dominance over their counterparts Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in the FIFA Club World Cup final from the first whistle itself. In the 3-0 final scoreline, rising star Cole Palmer stunned PSG with two quick goals inside the first eight minutes, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided affair. Joao Pedro added another goal to the Blues’ tally just before halftime, effectively ending PSG’s hopes. The French club struggled to create meaningful chances, while Chelsea’s high pressing and man-to-man strategy suffocated their rhythm.
Apart from lifting the new trophy, another perk that Chelsea will get is to get to wear the world champions badge on their shirts for the next four years. Clubs were previously given permission to wear the addition to the front of the shirts for 12 months, given the annual nature of the competition. But, now that the format has switched to a four-year cycle, the Blues will wear the champions badge until the next event in 2029. The 3-0 defeat marked the worst defeat of PSG since October 2023, when they were beaten 4-1 by Newcastle in a Champions League group-stage clash.
Donald Trump handed over the Club World Cup trophy to Chelsea
President of the United States Donald Trump gave the Chelsea players their winners’ medals and the FIFA Club World Cup trophy following the final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. He also gave PSG their runners-up medals. The US president also presented Chelsea keeper Robert Sanchez with the best goalkeeper award in the final after he saved an attempt from Ousmane Dembele, struck at goal from six yards.
The golden ball trophy was given to Cole Palmer for the best player of the tournament, while PSG player Desire Doue with the silver ball for the second-best player of the tournament.
