The stage was set for an epic final showdown between the heavyweights, Chelsea and PSG at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Luis Enrique’s PSG were favourites to clinch the title, seeing their recent run, however, Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea defied the odds and put on a show, thrashing the French champions 3-0 in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025. As the match kicked-off it was evident from Chelsea that they are onto something big. They started the match with a flair and in high spirits pressing on PSG’s defence line and creating multiple chances consecutively against the mighty PSG side.
PSG were unable to move past their own half for a long period as Chelsea were a bit too dominant on the ball. Then on the 21st minute mark, Chelsea’s right back Malo Gusto sprinted down the right to cut past PSG’s defender Beraldo and took a shot which was intercepted by Beraldo and went onto the feet of Cole Palmer, who placed the ball into the bottom left corner of the net to make it 1-0.
Palmer & Pedro combine to leave PSG in complete disbelief
Chelsea were showing no signs of slowing down during the match which made it difficult for PSG to open up the play as Chelsea’s man marking was on point. Both the teams put their body on the line and the match started to become increasingly aggressive. However, just at the half hour mark, a long ball was put onto Cole Palmer on the right flank, who took on the defender, creating a space for himself and placed the ball into the back of the net in the same fashion as the first goal which made it 2-0. PSG’s hope of getting back into the match started to fade away. To add on to the misery just before halftime, Chelsea’s new addition Joao Pedro who scored a brace in the semis, put the game to bed after he chipped the PSG keeper Donnarumma to make it 3-0 for Chelsea.
PSG tried different ways to get over the line but Chelsea’s defence remained rock solid and to add to the misery a red card was shown to Joao Neves for pulling hair of Marc Cucurella. Chelsea maintained their composure to earn a well deserved victory to become the inaugural champions of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025.
