It’s a journey which started from a farmer’s son running on village ridges to being Asia’s premier long-distance runner. Indian sprinter Gulveer Singh has a national record under his belt in 3,000m, 5,000m and 10,000m. His triumph in the 10,000m category in Asian Athletics Championships 2025 led him to secure India’s first gold in that event, followed by another gold at the same meet in the 5,000m category. Apart from setting new records, he broke his own 10,000m national record at The Ten 2025 meet in the US, clocking 27:00.22 seconds.
Continuing his streak of record-breaking runs, Gulveer clocked an impressive 3:36.58 seconds in the men’s 1500m event on Sunday, July 13. He achieved the feat at the Sunset Tour, a World Athletic Continental Tour Silver level meet, in Los Angeles. Gulveer recorded the best Indian timing of the season in the 1500m category, and this exceptional feat now places him as third-fastest Indian in what was the 27-year-old’s maiden race over this distance. Previous national record holders in the 1500m category are Jinson Johnson (3:35.24 seconds) and Parvej Khan (3:36.21 seconds).
