In the ongoing Test series between England and India, the third match at Lord’s turned fierce after the drama that unfolded in the last over of the third day. Following India skipper Shubman Gill’s verbal tussle with opener Zak Crawley, it was Ben Duckett, who was ready from the English team to take on the 25-year-old on day four. Gill looked stunning with his bat in the initial two Tests, slamming three centuries in four innings. However, in the ongoing Lord’s Test, he failed to be impactful with his bat.
After failing to be effective in the first innings, when Gill came out to bat on the fourth day, the right-handed batter’s responsibility was to deliver a fine knock as India were struggling at a score 41/2 while chasing a target of 193. Just at this moment, Duckett took a dig at Gill for his struggle as batter. The 30-year-old English player, in a conversation with his teammate, taunted India captain and said, "600 runs and he's done for this series. 600 runs is enough for this fella."
Shubman Gill lost his wicket to Brydon Carse in the second innings
In the second innings, Shubman Gill fell against England pacer Brydon Carse. The young batter failed to counter a delivery from the speedster that eventually crashed his pad. After facing nine balls, he could score only six runs. His fall was a huge blow for the visitors as they were already struggling after the early departure of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Karun Nair while chasing 193 only.
After Gill’s dismissal, Akash Deep walked into the middle at number five to don the role of nightwatchman. However, the tailender couldn’t do much as Ben Stokes cleaned him up and sent him back to the dugout. On the fifth day of the match, KL Rahul’s responsibility will be to stand at the crease and take India home. The veteran has done a fine job in the innings thus far, with his unbeaten 33 off 47.
