The upcoming 2025-26 season of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is loomed by uncertainty. The limited overs franchise tournament is a key spectacle for the public in Bangladesh, who get a rare moment to witness overseas players doing some power hitting on their turf. The reigning champions of BPL are Fortune Barishal, who defended their title knocking off 195 against Chittagong Kings with three balls to spare earlier this year.

In a recent development, the upcoming edition of Bangladesh Premier League may be shifted from the December-January window to May. The uncertainty over the organisation of the tournament is due to the upcoming general election in Bangladesh, the dates of which are yet not final. In a report by Cricbuzz, BPL chairman Mahbub Alam made an announcement on the BPL after an emergency meeting of the board of directors at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Thursday, July 10.

“BPL slot may change due to the elections. BPL (could be) before December, or another slot is being planned. We will take the next steps depending on the government’s decision, and in this regard, May (window) is another option,” he added.

More venues are in line for BPL next season: Chairman Mahbub Alam

Mahbub Alam added that they are eyeing to increase the number of venues in BPL from the current stadiums at Dhaka, Chattogram, and Sylhet that host the tournament. "We will try to increase the number of venues. New venues will be added if they meet ICC standards and provide suitable accommodation for players," he said.

"Bogura and Khulna stadiums have been sent for auditing. Work is ongoing at Barisal Stadium, which may also qualify for inclusion. The National Sports Council is working on Rajshahi as well. Among these four venues, the best ones that meet the criteria could be added to the upcoming BPL," he added.
