The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 saw some of the best performances from players with the bat, ball, and in the field, not just in one or two matches, but right through the course of the tournament. After the new IPL champions were crowned in the form of RCB at the expense of PBKS in the final of the 2025 edition at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the most valuable player (MVP) award for the season was given to none other than Surykumar Yadav of Mumbai Indians (MI), who is also the captain of the Indian cricket team in the T20 format.

It is important to note that the MVP award winner in the IPL isn’t determined on the basis of subjective analysis rather the objective parameters, i.e. points. With that in mind, Suryakumar Yadav was definitely one of the most consistent batters in the league, not only in terms of scoring runs, 717 in total at an average of 65.18 and a strike-rate of 167.91, but also making the batters sweat with boundaries regularly.

Although, the runs aren’t counted in regard to picking the MVP award winner, like the Orange Cap awardee, the fours and sixes are keys to it, which Suryakumar Yadav hit 69 and 38 times respectively. Apart from that, he also took six catches in total, which propelled his points tally to 320.5, which is just ahead of Sai Sudharsan, with the latter taking home the Orange Cap award.

After the MVP award got re-introduced with the unique points system in 2013, Sunil Narine has been the only winner, who went on to win the IPL trophy in the year 2024. In the first five seasons of the tournament, it was called the man of the tournament award, and during this time, Shane Watson (2008), Adam Gilchrist (2009), and Sunil Narine (2012), took it home along with the IPL trophy in the same year.
