On Sunday, July 13, the Indian badminton community received a massive jolt as former World No. 1, Saina Nehwal announced separation from her long-time partner Parupalli Kashyap. Taking to social media, Nehwal, who has risen to fame after her heroics on the badminton court, confirmed the decision on Sunday night.

Taking to Instagram story, Nehwal wrote, "Life takes us in different directions sometimes. After much thought and consideration, Kashyap Parupalli and I have decided to part ways. We're choosing peace, growth, and healing-for ourselves and each other.” “I'm grateful for the memories and wish nothing but the best moving forward. Thank you for understanding and respecting our privacy during this time," she further added, urging fans to respect their privacy.

Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap part ways after seven years of marriage

The couple tied a knot in December 2018 after years of being together on the badminton court. However, their partnership ended after only seven years. Speaking in detail of Parupalli Kashyap, the badminton player was born in Hyderabad on 8 September 1986. He received his early education at Loyala High School in Secunderabad and later went up to purse a degree in Computer Science from University of Petroleum and Energey Studies (UPES), Dehradun.

Although, this much is known of his educational qualification, he began his badminton stint at the age of 11. Due to his father’s transferable job, their family shifted to Bengaluru and joined the Padukone Academy before moving back to Hyderabad in 2004. He later joined the Pullela Gopichand Academy in Hyderabad with his struggles with health, following the diagnosis of asthma.
