Team India Test skipper Shubman Gill has scripted history with his remarkable innings against England in the second Test getting played at Edgbaston. The 25-year-old notched up his double ton and entered the record books as the first India skipper to notch up a Test double ton on England’s soil. He played extraordinarily and completed his first red-ball 200 in 311 balls. He has also become the first Asian captain to hit a double century in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, Australia) countries apart from becoming the third Indian to hit a 200 in English conditions, following Sunil Gavaskar’s 221 in 1979 and Rahul Dravid’s 217 in 2002.

Before the series, Gill’s critics were questioning his appointment as India Test captain and were highlighting his batting numbers in England. With his back-to-back magnificent batting shows, Gill has answered them back solidly. His innings is getting appreciated by netizen as well. An X user Ajesh Ramachandran wrote, “Magnificent from Shubman Gill. A tremendous 200 to follow his 147 from the 1st Test. What a series this young captain is having with the bat...reminiscent of @GraemeSmith49. Meanwhile, clever of him to try and take out two of England's premier batters at the boundary en route.”

Shubman Gill becomes India’s highest individual scorer in a Test innings in England

Gill has now hoarded 222 runs from his bat in this game and with this effort, he has shattered legend Sunil Gavaskar’s feat of scoring most runs for Team India in a Test innings in England. Riding on his unprecedented batting show, Team India are about to cross the 500-run mark.

As of writing, India are 496/6 in 126 overs, with Gill (unbeaten 222 off 323) and Washington Sundar (unbeaten 23 off 73) at the crease. England will have to break this partnership to make a comeback in the match.
