In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Eliminator at the New PCA Stadium, Mumbai Indians (MI) star pacer Trent Boult displayed his excellence and got rid of Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper Shubman Gill in the first over of the second innings. Batting first after winning the toss, Mumbai posted a colossal total of 228/5 on the board, riding on the valiant knocks from veteran openers Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow. Bairstow, on his MI debut smashed rapid 47 runs off just 22 balls while Rohit notched up 81 off just 50 and became the batter with the highest individual score for MI in the playoffs.
Chasing the huge target, GT fans were expecting their captain Shubman to step up and deliver an impact knock but the 25-year-old couldn’t pass the Trent Boult challenge. In the attempt to attack the New Zealander, Gill strove to play across the line but got trapped eventually as the ball struck his pad and the umpire raised his finger on the Kiwi speedster’s appeal. Gill could score only one run from his bat. Boult’s delivery impressed his captain Hardik Pandya, who blew a flying kiss to the 35-year-old.
Sai Sudharsan launches onslaught against MI
After Gill’s early departure, Sai Sudharsan and Kusal Mendis played magnificently and brought Gujarat’s first fifty in just 28 balls. However, Mendis couldn’t hold his nerves and got hit wicket in the seventh over on Mitchell Santner’s delivery. The Sri Lanka batter could chip in with only 20 off 10. Both batters built a 66-run stand off just 34 balls.
Four deliveries after Mendis’ dismissal, Sudharsan scored two consecutive boundaries against Santner and brought his fifty in just 28 deliveries. As of writing, GT are 95/2 in nine overs, with Sudharsan (unbeaten 61 off 33) and Washington Sundar (unbeaten 11 off nine) at the crease.
