Team India's Test captain Shubman Gill has done a magnificent job as a skipper on day one of the first Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, getting played at Headingley in Leeds, scoring a hundred in 140 balls. The right-handed batter came to bat in the 26th over of the match, when India lost two wickets at a score of 92 after losing the toss. The right-handed batter displayed his domination by hitting England pacers for a boundary in his initial phase of the innings. He looked relentless against the home side and went on to complete his sixth Test half-century in just 56 balls. Along with Yashasvi Jaiswal, he built a 129-run partnership for the third wicket.
Shubman, who is batting in the number four spot for the first time, has shown that he can carry the legacy of former greats such as Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli, who performed exceptionally while playing in this spot. This is Gill’s third century against England. Earlier, his Test centuries against the English side came in Visakhapatnam and Dharamsala.
