Sai Sudharsan, undoubtedly one of the most talented and most sought-after batter in the current Indian cricket team happens to be making waves in the domestic circuit. However, the left hander, born in Tamil Nadu, who began playing cricket at a young age and quickly rose through the ranks, was not really able to make an impression where it came to his Test debut in England against England.
As seen a little over a couple of hours ago, the blazing left handed bat known for his elegant technique fell, arguably speaking, to the pressure of performing at the debut game; his big wicket falling to none other than the current English Test captain, Ben Stokes.
A naught on debut would certainly have hurt. Especially since, Sai Sudharsan has already participated and avidly so, in the last two editions of the England-bound County Championship contests in which he even struck a century.
However, having said that while Sai's impressive performances in domestic tournaments have earned him recognition and accolades, he would certainly love to repeat the feat for India sometime soon, and quite urgently so, where it comes to Test cricket.
While we mustn’t forget that he has consistently demonstrated his skills as a batter operating in the top order for Tamil Nadu, his recent early dismissal is bound to push to get going in England, far away from Indian pitches, without losing much time.
That being said, which other Test debutants for Team India have been dismissed for a duck and certainly, the sight of a zero hurts the one who’s just beginning his journey for India.
Indian players dismissed on duck in debut Test innings since 2010
Wriddhiman Saha
One of the most dedicated and patient Test match wicketkeeper batters for India, Saha, the talent from West Bengal who shone brightly even in the IPL actually didn’t have a great start to his test career.
In 2010, against the then-mighty South Africa side the right hander made a duck and lasted just three deliveries out in the middle.
Ravichandran Ashwin
His is a really interesting tale. Ashwin, actually made a test duck in his Debut Test that happened versus West Indies. But in that very game thanks to exceptional off spin bowling, he’d end up being the player of the match as the famed off spinner claimed nine wickets in the game making another impressive record of taking a six-for in his very first test itself.
Ravichandran Ashwin would eventually end up scoring 3500 plus runs as a batter in test cricket.
Umesh Yadav
The once promising and upbeat fast bowler made a test duck upon marking his test debut. This came against the West Indies cricket team in India during the very series in which Sachin Tendulkar, an all time legend, retired.
As a matter of fact, the right hander made a first ball duck with the medium pacer Ravi Rampaul getting his wicket.
