Uttar Pradesh batter and former Chennai Super Kings player, Sameer Rizvi slammed 20 sixes and 13 boundaries to enter his name into record books. Rizvi hit the fastest double century in the Men’s U23 State A Trophy in the clash against Tripura on Saturday, December 21. He remained not out on 201 off 97 deliveries, and took his side to 405 as UP took down their counterparts by a huge 152-run margin. It is to be noted that Rizvi is currently atop the list of highest scorers with a total of 518 runs from four games.
In previous games, he recorded knocks of 153 and an unbeaten 137, which clearly show that the batter is in his best form. Talking about the team, Uttar Pradesh has won four games out of six in the group stage of the tournament. While the UP batter has recorded the fastest double ton in the history of the tournament, it won’t qualify as a List A record. The record for the fastest double century in List A cricket is currently held by New Zealand’s Chad Bowes, who broke the joint record of India’s Narayan Jagadeesan and Australia’s Travis Head. Bowes scored 205 runs in 110 deliveries, while Jagadeesan and Head recorded double tons in 114 balls.
Sameer Rizvi bought by Delhi Capitals for INR 95 Lakh in IPL 2025 Mega Auction
The 21-year-old batter was picked by the Delhi Capitals for a sum of INR 95 lakh, which marked a significant drop from the previous season. In 2024, five-time IPL winners Chennai Super Kings acquired the services of the batter for INR 8.4 Crore. The batter is often compared to Suresh Raina for his aggressive batting style.
However, he had an underwhelming debut IPL season, where Rizvi could score only 51 runs across five innings at a strike rate of 118.60. While the batter has wreaked havoc with the bat in the domestic circuit, the Delhi-based franchise would look forward to having a positive season with the youngster in the IPL 2025.
