After going down by five wickets in the opening Test of the five-match series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 in Leeds, Team India have bounced back strongly in the ongoing second Test, underway at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After being put to bat first, the visitors posted 587 runs, courtesy a double century from Shubman Gill (269), along with fifty-plus scores from Yashasvi Jaiswal (87) and Ravindra Jadeja (89).
Thereafter, after a brilliant bowling performance, led by Mohammed Siraj, India bundled out England at 407 in 89.3 overs to take a lead of 180 runs. Although, Harry Brook scored 158 off 234, along with a gritty 184 off 207 from Jamie Smith, Siraj stood up in absence of Jasprit Bumrah, along with the likes of Akash Deep.
Mohammed Siraj becomes first Indian bowler to take six-fer in a Test in England and South Africa
The Indian pacer stood and delivered on the third day of the second Test and helped restrict the hosts at 407. During his 19.3 over spell, Siraj picked up six wickets while conceding 70 runs at an economy of 3.60. The Hyderabad-born first dismissed Zak Crawley (19 off 30) and then went on to pick Joe Root and Ben Stokes’ wickets on back-to-back deliveries. He then dismissed the tailenders in Brydon Carse, Josh Tongue and Shoaib Bashir to put England on the backfoot.
During his bowling spell, Siraj also etched his name in history books as he became the first bowler to take a six-wicket haul in a Test match for India in England as well as South Africa. It is to be noted that a total of eight bowlers, including the likes of Ishant Sharma, Amar Singh, Bhagwath Chandrasekhar, Chetan Sharma, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Dilip Doshi, Bishan Singh Bedi and Siraj have dismissed six or more England batters in one innings in England, however, seven bowlers have picked a six-fer in South Africa.
