In the main event of WWE SmackDown from Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, John Cena, the WWE Champion, battled his arch-nemesis R-Truth in a one-on-one match. The repeat of their battle last month at the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME) ended in a disqualification win for R-Truth after John Cena nailed the WWE Championship on his head at the entrance ramp, giving the referee AJ Perera no choice to call for the bell.
It led to the arrival of CM Punk to the scene before he and John Cena battled each other just eight days before their highly anticipated WWE Championship match at the Night of Champions PLE in Saudi Arabia. When Punk had the possession of the WWE Championship belt, Cena kicked him low before reclaiming it and clocking his challenger flush on his head with it.
John Cena gave shout out to Claudio Castagnoli, Nic Nemeth, and Matt Cardona during 'Pipebomb' promo
John Cena introduced the Slim Jim table before he put down CM Punk with the title belt shot to the head once again and gave him an attitude adjustment through the piece of furniture. As Punk was laid out in the rubble of the Slim Jim table, Cena grabbed the mic and started to mock the infamous “Pipebomb” promo from 14 years on Raw when these two superstars were on the opposite end of the spectrum, with Cena laid out in the rubble of a table and Punk delivering a scathing remark on all things WWE.
Initially, John Cena talked about hating the idea that CM Punk is the Best in the World, but he isn’t, and instead, the WWE Champion called himself the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) before stating that his challenger is better than him at one thing, which is being the best bullshitter in the world. Cena pointed out his jealousy towards Punk in regards to convincing the people of his myth, but they don’t believe in him because of his constant change in values just as much as the Leader of the Cenation changes his t-shirts.
The record-setting 17th time world champion in the WWE also gave shout outs to AEW star Claudio Castagnoli (fka Cesaro), TNA star Nic Nemeth (fka Dolph Ziggler), and indie star Matt Cardona (fka Zack Ryder). After cutting his own version of the “Pipebomb” promo on CM Punk, John Cena thanked the Voice of the Voiceless for ripping it off from him before dropping the mic.
