There is something incredible about hitting a century in the great game of cricket. Something even special when you do it in the format considered the litmus test to gauge the true test and potential of a talent. But, having said that, there's something rare and so joyous when you reach a century in Test match cricket by way of hitting a six. No?
And over the course of the past several years, many Indian batters in Test cricket have reached their special century by hitting a six. As a matter of fact, some batters have reached a Test century by hitting a six on multiple occasions.
So let us find out who belong to that list.
Indian Batters who reached Test century by hitting a six more than once
Sachin Tendulkar - 6 times
The great man in world cricket and a timeless legend who inspires as much as he makes the heart glad of that fan who can't imagine the world of cricket without him. During the course of his checkered and legendary career, Sachin, an icon, hit 51 Test centuries, the most by any batter ever. This is why Sachin Tendulkar's considered a generational great, a pure genius.
But, on six of those occasions, he reached a test ton by hitting a six. What a player. What a way in which to have raised those milestones.
Rishabh Pant - 3 times
Rishabh Pant is such a good batsman to watch that often times, he reduces even the most skilled bowlers into looking like just a cut above average and mostly, harmless.
In reaching his recent seventh Test match hundred, Pant danced down the ground and lifted the English spinner Shoaib Bashir for a towering six.
However, this latest century in Test cricket wasn't the first time that he had achieved a three-figure-mark by virtue of hitting a six.
Pant had done it twice before too.
It's incredible to think that in the year 2021, he only had three centuries to his name and even after recovery from a recent accident that took him some time away from the game, he's already hit century number seven in Test cricket.
Bravo!
Rohit Sharma - 3 times
Thrice the great Rohit Sharma, popularly known as the Hitman hit a six to reach his Test century. The most recent such exploit from the bat of Rohit Sharma happened in the year 2021 where he was batting at the Kennington Oval in England.
Rohit also scored a noted double century in his career, but recently took retirement from Test cricket, when one felt, he could have gone a bit longer.
His highest score in Tests remains 212.
Gautam Gambhir - 2 times
The former important and significant talented member of the Indian Test team was once a batter on his way to become the next big thing in five day cricket for the sub-continental force. However, the left-hander's Test career ended after just 58 games, from which he scored north of 4100 runs with nine Test hundreds.
He also struck 518 boundaries in his Test career. However, here's what's exciting: twice the confident left hander hit a six in his five-day career for India to raise a hundred.
Interestingly, even current faces of the Indian Test team, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal (who most notably hit a first century whilst batting in England), have raised a Test ton by scoring a six. And they've both done it the same number of times as the irrepressible figure of the game in Gautam Gambhir.
