In the first innings of the opening Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley in Leeds, Ravindra Jadeja failed to be effective with his bat for India. Following Karun Nair’s departure, Jadeja’s responsibility was to support Rishabh Pant at the crease, however, the veteran couldn’t produce an impactful innings from his bat and departed after scoring only 11 off 15. After a miserable outing with the bat, he also dropped Ben Duckett, who was playing his score of 15.
On the last delivery of the seventh over of the innings, Duckett edged towards the backward point on Jasprit Bumrah’s delivery, but the 36-year-old failed to grab the opportunity. Had Jadeja sealed the chance, England would’ve fallen under immense pressure as Bumrah delivered an early blow to the hosts in the form of Zak Crawley, who departed after scoring only four. Noting Jadeja’s error, netizen didn’t keep cool and took him to the cleaners. An X user named Para Rishi wrote, “May be it is the age catching up with Ravindra Jadeja? Poor outing with the bat and now a regulation catch dropped by point. Rare event! #ENGvsIND #INDvsENG.”
Check out the fan reactions on X after Ravindra Jadeja dropped an easy catch of Ben Duckett:
England recover after losing Zak Crawley early in first innings
After losing Zak Crawley early, England have recorded recovery as their top-order batters Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope held their nerves and stitched a 68-run stand after 15 overs of the innings.
Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna will look to break this stand as both batters have settled down at the crease comfortably. As of this writing, England are 72/1 after 15 overs, with Duckett batting at an unbeaten 33 off 48, while Pope has also amassed an unbeaten 34 off 36.
