Jofra Archer, the England fast bowler, has been included in the Sussex squad for the County Championship match against Durham on Sunday, June 22, at the Riverside Ground. The 30-year-old, who hasn’t played a first-class match for four years due to multiple injuries especially to the right elbow and back, will be looking to prove his fitness to the English selectors over the next four days, to give himself the best chance to get selected at some stage in the ongoing England versus India five-match Test series.
In the year 2025, Jofra Archer played for England in the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan in February, but it wasn’t the best of tournaments either for him or his team. Following that, he was an integral part of Rajasthan Royals (RR) bowling lineup in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, bowling express pace and troubled the top order batters, but his team faltered badly to finish in ninth place in 10-team tournament.
England selector Luke Wright spoke about potentially including Jofra Archer in England Test squad earlier this month
Before Jofra Archer’s inclusion in the Sussex squad for the County Championship match, which will be played tomorrow, England selector Luke Wright had addressed the potential of the fast bowler in regards to playing against India in the five-match Test series. Wright talked about how Archer needs to come out of four-day clash for Sussex for this weekend, to potentially become available for selection for second Test on July 2, at Edgbaston in Birmingham.
The Test career of Jofra Archer got off to a fantastic start in the Ashes 2019 against Australia at home, with his spell to Steve Smith at Lord’s in London being one of the most memorable ones after he hit him in the neck, which forced the batter to retire hurt. He has played 13 Test matches in his career - with the last being in February 2021 against India in India - taking 42 wickets at an average of 31.04 at an economy of 2.99 with best figures of 6/45 versus the Australians.
