England women cricket team’s spinner Sophie Ecclestone has taken a break from domestic cricket to focus on her well-being. England will be hosting India for eight white-ball matches (five WT20Is and three WODIs) to be played between June 28 to July 22. Ecclestone failed to win a spot in her national team’s squad against West Indies for the ongoing limited-over series. She played her last international game against Australia in February. Since then, she hasn’t got the opportunity to represent England. The 26-year-old has taken a hiatus from domestic cricket, but she will be available for selection for the series against India.
During this break, the young bowler will also strive to get rid of her quad injury. Charlotte Edwards, England’s new head coach, has supported Ecclestone’s decision regarding the break. "Sophie has been managing a quad niggle over the past week but, more importantly, she wants to take a step back from cricket for a short period to look after herself,” said Edwards.
Edwards also added, "We're totally behind that. We want to be able to select Sophie for the India series but the most important thing for her at the moment is that she feels in a better place. We all agree that a break now could be beneficial for her to achieve that.”
Sophie Ecclestone has superb bowling record against India
Sophie Ecclestone’s white-ball record is amazing against India. She has played 15 WT20Is against India, in which she has picked up 20 wickets at a frugal economy of 6.54. Her numbers get better in WODIs as she has grabbed 22 wickets in 12 games against the Women In Blue.
England will look to stall India from winning two consecutive WODI series on English soil as Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. whitewashed the hosts in three-match 50-over competition held in 2022 as well.
