The much-awaited India tour of England, the newly named Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy kickstarted with the first Test at the Headingley in Leeds on Friday, June 20. The opening day saw the home side, England won the toss and elect to bowl. As a result, Shubman Gill-led Team India were put to bat first.

The Men in Blue saw them dominate on the English soil on the opening day as Yashasvi Jaiswal (101) and Shubman Gill (127*) scored centuries to put 359 runs on the board at the end of 85 overs at stumps. However, Shubman Gill will look to convert his hundred to a double hundred alongside Rishabh Pant, who is batting at unbeaten 65, the former grabbed the headlines for some wrongdoings.

Shubman Gill likely to be fined for breaching ICC’s Clothing and Equipment Rule

Although, Gill stole the limelight for his performance with the bat, becoming just the fourth Indian to score a century on Test captaincy debut, he also grabbed the limelight for his dresscode. However, no such fines have been imposed on Gill thus far, but there remains a cloud looming over his dresscode which saw him walk out to bat wearing black-coloured socks.

According to clause 19.45 of the ICC rules on Clothing and Equipment, a player must wear socks of either white, cream or light grey colours in a Test match. If the instance got into the match referee, Richie Richardson’s eyes, Gill could land in some trouble with the offence likely only of Level 1 category. Furthermore, he the youngster could be fined 10-20% of his match fee with a demerit point.
