On Saturday, June 21, Nottingham Forest announced that their first-team manager Nuno Espirito Santo has a new three-year-deal to stay at the club until 2028. The decision from majority owner of Nottingham Forest, Evangelos Marinakis, came after a fantastic Premier League season for the club, finishing in seventh place, to qualify for European competition for the first-time since the 1995-96 season.
In the Premier League 2024-25 season, Nottingham Forest won 19 out of 38 matches, drawing eight and losing 11, to put together a tally of 65 points, which proved to be enough for them to make the UEFA Conference League playoff stage next season. Nuno Espirito Santo had joined the club when they were in dire straits in December 2023 after the departure of Steve Cooper from the job.
The Portuguese helped Nottingham Forest in surviving the relegation on the final day of the 2023-24 Premier League season, finishing in 17th place despite getting four-point deduction for breaching the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). But, within a few months, Nuno Espirito Santo took the club not only to the top half of the table, but they were in the top four for quite some time, aiming to secure UEFA Champions League (UCL).
I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football club: Nuno Espirito Santo
In his first comment after signing a new three-year-deal to continue being the Nottingham Forest manager, Nuno Espirito Santo was quoted as saying, “I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football club. Since we arrived at Forest, we have worked extremely hard to create a special bond between the players, the fans and everyone at the club, which helped us achieve great things last season.”
Meanwhile, Evangelos Marinakis said on the latest development, “Nuno has made a great impact and performed very well during his time with us so far. He has demonstrated that he maximises player performance and is an expert at developing players, whilst also embedding our young talent into the first team set-up.”
“We enjoy a strong and solid relationship together and, above all, we share the same dream and ambition of writing a new history for Nottingham Forest, competing in the Premier League and in Europe and winning trophies for our great club,” he added.
