Star Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan had a memorable outing in the ongoing IPL 2025 edition. The opening batter finished his campaign as the leading run scorer of the season so far amassing 759 runs from 15 matches at an average of 54.21 and a strike rate of 156.17 hitting six fifties and a hundred. He had been a strength of GT’s batting order this year and also played a fighting knock of 80 runs in the eliminator against Gujarat Titans. However, GT ended up losing the game by 20 games and were eliminated from the title race.

Sai Sudharsan is currently leading the list of top run scorers of the season. Although Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav can still surpass him to win the orange cap, Sudharsan had a memorable season with the bat and also earned India call for the upcoming Test series in England. Talking about his performance, the GT opener said that his experience in country cricket helped him to get the momentum.

“I think I have played seven games in county cricket, so it gave me a great experience to be honest. It improved my batting multiple folds in terms of technique and in terms of basics too. It told me basics is the most important thing in batting," Sudharsan said at the press conference after the eliminator against MI. “So, I think it should help me, and I will focus more on what I learnt and I will try and be aware and create that awareness before going into the series.”

I think focusing back to red-ball cricket will take some time: Sai Sudharsan

Speaking further. Sai Sudharsan reflected on his preparations for the upcoming Test series against England. Notably, India are scheduled to play five Test matches in England from June 20 to August 4. Star batter Shubman Gill is set to lead the Indian Test team for the first time while Sudharsan is also set to make his debut in red–ball cricket for India.

“Definitely, after a long three months of white-ball tournament, certain things would have changed in your batting. I think focusing more on basics and bringing those back to red-ball cricket will take some time. We will have some good time before the series starts,” Sudharsan said.

“In our mind, we were planning only to leave on the 4th from IPL, so we were not thinking about when to leave for India A or the Test team, but if that was the plan the Test team would have left on the 6th, but now we will have to have a conversation and see how it goes," he further added.
