The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain, Rajat Patidar, 31, is currently recovering from a finger injury amid the ongoing temporary suspension of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for a week due to border tensions between India and Pakistan. It is understood that if the IPL 2025 continued as per its initial schedule, Rajat Patidar would have been ruled out for at least two matches for RCB in the competition.
Notably, Rajat Patidar had suffered a finger injury during a blockbuster contest between RCB and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which they won by two runs on May 3. As per the report published in ESPNcricinfo, the 31-year-old got the advice to wear a splint to protect his finger apart from no training for at least 10 days before the reassessment of the injury.
Jitesh Sharma was set to take captaincy of RCB in place of Rajat Patidar
In the place of Rajat Patidar, the responsibility of leading RCB would have come on the shoulders of wicketkeeper batter Jitesh Sharma, who was set to captain them against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Lucknow on May 8 just before the BCCI suspended the IPL for a week. Moreover, RCB is currently working overtime, to help him get fit for the IPL, if the tournament does get played following its one week suspension, and the India A tour to England, if he gets picked in the squad.
Moreover, Rajat Patidar made his way back from Lucknow to Bengaluru with the rest of the members of the RCB squad on Saturday, May 11. He also talked about his optimism of playing the remainder of the IPL 2025, if it restarts soon in the wake of the ceasefire announced by India and Pakistan last evening, but as of this writing, everything is up in the air in regards to the tournament.
