In the second session on day two of the second Test match between England and India, which is currently underway at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. Shubman Gill, the captain of the Indian cricket team, got to his maiden double century in Test cricket. The 25-year-old reached the milestone on the 311th ball of his innings, taking a single on the bowling of fast bowler Josh Tongue before bringing out his trademark bow down celebration towards his teammates in the dressing room.
Shubman Gill arguably put together the best innings of his career thus far, displaying incredible skill to not allow the opposition bowlers to trouble him at any stage apart from being incredibly determined at the crease since his arrival in the first session on day one. His batting was a perfect blend of quality defensive technique and impressive strokeplay from the very beginning.

Shubman Gill is third Indian batter to hit double century in Test cricket in England
He also became the third batter from India to hit a double century in England after Rahul Dravid and Sunil Gavaskar apart from becoming the first Indian captain to achieve this feat in the same country. Currently, India have reached 472/6 total in 121.1 overs in their first innings with Shubman Gill at the crease alongside Washington Sundar, who has managed to play the short ball barrage from England bowlers quite well in the early phase of his innings.
Moreover, it was during the third session on day one when Shubman Gill had reached his hundred during the sixth wicket partnership of 203 runs with Ravindra Jadeja, which ended earlier on day two. After failing to make his first century on the tour a real big one at Headingley in Leeds last week, Shubman Gill managed to set his stall out at Edgbaston in Birmingham with the Indian cricket team down 1-0 in the Test series.
India will be aiming to go well beyond 500 runs in the first innings of the second Test, to put some pressure on the highly accomplished England batting lineup.
